Site specific installation depicting the history,
architecture and transit
of the St. Louis region, circa 1900. Template cutout illustrates the original
silhouette of City Hall with black and white photographic imagery describing
the street scene and modes of transit from that period. Interior of the bus shelter
features additional historic photographs and literature reinforcing the historic
significance of early St. Louis landmarkings as they relate to the current transit
systems.
A series of (12) 6' x 6' painted panels depicts each
motion in one complete cycle of
a white dove's wings generating power and lift in flight. The result is a bird image
soaring in an upward motion. The train passengers experience the panels in quick
sequence as the train goes by creating the sensation of the dove flying alongside
the train. A total of two sets of (12) panels each were located on opposing walls
within the tunnel for viewing by arriving and departing trains. MFAS worked closely
with head transit engineers on train and tunnel specifications to enhance overall design.
